FMP - Relevant Skills

 RELEVANT SKILLS

For my FMP i will  doing a shortt film based on gang members being tracked down by SAS soldiers. If i am going to carry this film out sucessfully i will have to look at the relevent skills when it comes to directing actors, Filming and Sound recording.

Directing - i will be needing to learn how to communicate with all members of the film to instruct them to do things. I will also need to find out how my actors and cast are going eat and drink. For this i will need planning

Filming - I will be needing to learn how to communicate with the new actors in my film, which are new to the scene. I will be going through what i want with the new actors and hopefully get the scenes done in the first couple takes + i will need to learn how to do a tracking shot and how to keep the camera stead by hand.

Sound Recording - I will be needing to learn how to film with the microphone but not getting the mic in shot.

Editing - I will be needing to lear editing skills to make it all fit in without mistakes, i will need to earn how to zoom in and it look professional

Evaluation

Day 1: I started by going to royal creasent and filmed the start of the film, i filmed 8 shots in total they were the following:

• Wide angle shot (aiden walking)

• close up (aiden's phone)

• medium shot (aiden on the phone)

• tracking wide shot (aiden picking up letter)

• close up (the letter)

• establishing shot (Following aiden walking)

• low shot (of aaron in the distance and aiden's feet)

• over the shoulder shot (aaron in the distance)
  
  
  we couldnt film anymore as we didnt have enough time as we also filmed dan's film. we were going to record some sound but the sound recorder didnt work with the microphone that we used. When we did the assassins creed foley we learnt alot on what to record and how to record it also the guitarist interview short clip that we filmed also helped as we learnt about the 5 shot method which helped me get te right shots and to have a veriety of shots

Day 2: We went out all day to finish the rest of my film we managed to film 8 shots in the last lesson, and the rest we filmed in the second session.

• wide shot (aaron running up path)

• wide shot (aaron running + sat on the bench)

• side shot (aaron looking at killer on bench)

  These were the shots that i completed on the second lesson. The clip of the guitarist helped again as i filmed a veriety of shots that were not repeated throughout the film.
  Again we were not able to record any foley as our recorder wasnt working again. in the future we checked it before going out.

6 Hour Film Competition

Throughout the previous three lectures with Tobie, we were set a task to film a short film with one prop that we were given (A Light) in 6 hours.
We decided to make the story involve the light alot, we made it so the light coud teleport you to a different dimention and with a different personality and different clothing, we used eachothers jackets in our group to make it look like i was in a different place every time i teleported.

We started by filming the first two scenes in the first 2 hour lesson, we went to the studio first and filmed me as a actor having a interview and the asked me to act with the light but when i press it they didnt tell me that i would teleport.

the next scene i ended up in a location near office buildings wearing a coach jacket, with glasses on smoking a ciggerette to give the feel of old fashioned times or a few decades ago, i then get interupted by the interviewer then i press the button and transport to a enclosed area with a suitcase waering modern clothing, i then open the suitcase and go back to the studio, i then leave the interview and aiden may comes on as another actor and the same process happens with him but i cut it before the scene leads on into the interview. Dan milsom is also in shot as he is used as a runner in the iterview.

Location scout + Recce + Risk assessments

Location scout

A location scout is a vital process in pre-production, it is used in film making and commertial photography. Once the producers and directors have decided on what they want the scene to look like they will send out a Location scout to go and find a location and inspect it to make sure it fits the producers and directors standards.

Recce

Recce is a bit like a location scout apartfrom their job is to go out to the location that the Location scout has selected and to inspect the location to make sure the location is suitible to film on and is what the producer and director would like to use.

These are both important in the filming industry as they both have to be done otherwise they will never have a plavce to film, also getting permisson and legal licences to use the property is also important with these two terms. Which also applys to televison industry.

we used these in our lecture last wednesday, we walked up to Royal Creasent and on the way there we stopped at some locations and took some photos, we had to use these techniques to make sure it was ok for us to film on and that is was suitible for our team.

Risk Assessment

We carry out Risk Assessments to highlight minor to serious dangers when it comes to going to film. so we can be aware of all the possible things that could happen for example, from tripping over a camera wire to being set on fire because you are using fire in a certain scene. we look at these so we can learn how to prevent these accidents from happening and making the set a safer place.

180 degree rule!

180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is used when two people are in a scene and the camera is not allowed to cross the line, for example if the camera is in front of the two people the camera cannot go behind the two people. The reason why this is used is becuse when you break the 180 degree rule and going behind he poeple, the people switch seats and when it comes to filming it can confuse the reader.

An exaple of this is the photos below.

as you can see the old man is on the right, but when the camera goes behind them the old man is on the left which is confusing to te eye.

The camera shots i used in the Outdoor shots are

• Over The Shoulder (From both sides)
• Wide Shot

 i added in a twist at the end of the clip, to show that I learnt how to add in text and sound effects and misic into a clip or short film etc. Also learnt about the 180 degree rule and how you have to keep in the 180 degrees and make sure that one actor stays on the left throughout the clip. Visa Versa.

I decided to use a wide shot so I could get the environment that the actors were in. Also i used over the shouder shot from both sides to get a cleare pictures of each actor.

We planned, flimed and edited this small clip in the 2 hour lesson that we had and finally upoaded it up to youtube

Importance of Pre-Production

Importance of Pre-Production

we watched a video of a blog, this blog was a video about scenes and locations behind the camera of the film The Hobbit. When i saw the blog i only just realised how much work is put into the film for it to be released correctly.
The importance of Pre-Production is really important to make sure that everything is falling in the right path. for example, health and safety is key to make sure everyone in the crew and the cast are not in danger, also things like catering and accommodation is key as the crew and cast will have no where to stay and nothing to eat if it isn't supplied.
In the blog they had 150 lorries to transport there equipment such as props, cameras, and loads more stuff just to film a certain moment of the film.
As i was watching the clip i found that the money and the budget. it was amazing finding out how much money they actually spend on the movie
