FMP - Recce

This is the location that i will be filming in to make my short film. I will be using the drive way and the house also the inside of the house when filming.

I decided to use this location as i thought it looked good for the genre that i am using as the house is out in the countryside and it appears very erie. The house has many rooms, narrow corridors and dead ends which will be helpful when it comes to filming in the house.

Key Lighting/Fill Lighting/Backlight

Key Light

Key light is one of the most important things that a Cameraman/Photographer could use in a lighting setup. The purpose of 'Key Light' is to directly aim at the person or at the object, to highlight certain parts of the face, or components of the object.

Key Light often only uses one light only that is directed diagonally in front of the person/subject, and the camera is placed in front of them. The position of the person/object can also effect the presentation of the photo/video.

Fill Light

In film or photographic lighting, a fill light may be used to reduce the contrast of a scene. It is usually used to fill in the darkness on one side of the person/object, They usually use this technique in things like films, staging and interviews. This photo is a great example of Fill light

Backlight

Backlight is a form of illumination, where a light is placed behind the person/object. Any light can be used as a light, from natural to un-natural, the light is usually placed above the person/object, they can also be placed directly behind the subject so it gives it a bright glowing silhouette effect. They can also be referred to a hair lights.

Library Foley

While doing the foley for the library clip i learnt many new things about sound and equipment.
before we started to record our sound we had to go through how the equipment worked, so we learnt about male and female cables and XLR cables and shotgun microphone etc. After i was told how to use this equipment we started recording, we moved locations three times because we had interference with people come in and out and technicians. So that was also another thing i learnt that i will not repeat to save time. We recorded all of the sounds in the drama studio as it was empty and quiet. I liked this activity as i know that all the sounds used in the foley are my own and they fit in with the clip.

What i haven't enjoyed about this task was people butting into my sounds when i was recording and having to move around a lot which would waste a lot of time.

When i recorded the sounds i wanted them to sound exactly how the clip shows but obviously it s hard to do that when you haven't got the clip right in front of you, but when it come to adding the sounds to the actual clip it wasn't so bad as i was able to edit the sound and make it fit in better.

Balanced audio is very important. If you have sounds that you have recorded that clip or are way too quiet, they are no good, you need sound which doesn't clip and every sound that you record needs to be in the same range otherwise they are hard to work with or may have to redo them.

I used this ZOOM sound recorder with a shotgun microphone

Short Film - Sniper Pug

This short film is about a group of soldieres that are taking down their rivalry as they have a bomb. The sargent then sends out the soilders with the "Sniper pug" They then get caught after they are ambushed and they pug saves the soldiers but then the bomb goes off and kills them all apart from the pug.

The three act structure is.
Firstly: there is a clip of the enimies and the good soldiers are talking about what they are going to do and then shows the pug.

secondly: they move out and begin getting into combat with the enimies while traveling whilst the private is bugging the sargent, and sgain the pug is doing nothing.

thirdly: they getambushed and they are left stuck in a bad situation, they almost get killed by the enimies but the pug saves them by shooting the sniper rifle, but they forgot about the bomb and it exploded and killed them all apart from the pug.

Camera Shots

Yesterday we were set a task to go and film some scenes using certain camera shots that we studied,
we filmed a few short clips and we are going to put them all together to create a short film.

We used a Cannon Camera and we also had tripod to film some steady shots, we filmed over the shoulder, wide shot, close up, twoshot, extreme close up. We then out all of thiose together in Adobe Premiere and learnt how to add test to a certain clip.

Earlier in the lesson we looked a some behind the scenes of the film 'The Hobbit', We looked at how the scenes were set in a actual hobbit village also they showed us how many stuff they took to the scene to film what they need to.

In shorter words Pre-production is key!

After we watched the blog clip, we looked at  what we could do when filming our short film.
so we looked at all of the camera angles we saw in a particular clip then planned on what we were going to do when filming

I learned that how much money goes into filmes and keeping everyone on the project happy. also i learnt how to use the camera and how to work with it (actors side)
i learnt how work with the Adobe Premiere edting software

Importance of Pre-Production

Importance of Pre-Production

we watched a video of a blog, this blog was a video about scenes and locations behind the camera of the film The Hobbit. When i saw the blog i only just realised how much work is put into the film for it to be released correctly.
The importance of Pre-Production is really important to make sure that everything is falling in the right path. for example, health and safety is key to make sure everyone in the crew and the cast are not in danger, also things like catering and accommodation is key as the crew and cast will have no where to stay and nothing to eat if it isn't supplied.
In the blog they had 150 lorries to transport there equipment such as props, cameras, and loads more stuff just to film a certain moment of the film.
As i was watching the clip i found that the money and the budget. it was amazing finding out how much money they actually spend on the movie
