FMP - Secondary Research

La Cosa Nostra is the biggest and most dangerous gang in the world.  This gang are an Italian Mob, they are also known as...
  • Cosa Nostra
  • Italian Mafia
  • Italian Mob
  • Sicilian Mafia
The basic group is known as a family, clan, or cosca or "cosche" in Sicilian.  Each family claims power over a territory, usually a town or village or a neighbourhood of a large city.
The Mafia's power comes from its reputation of violence, particularly murder, against virtually anyone. Through reputation, mafiosi discourage their enemies and enemies of their clients. It allows mafiosi to protect a client without being physically present eg. as bodyguards or watchmen.

Murder: Murders are always carried out by members of the gang. It is unlikely for the Mafia to kill an outsider for a single job, and some people are liable to be killed soon afterwards because they become liabilities. Mafia violence is mostly directed at other Mafia families competing for territory and business.

I also looked in the library and found a book about gang violence, i thought this would relate to my FMP as i can use the history and the present crimes to link into my short film

FMP - Mind Map

This is my mind map for my FMP.

My fmp is about a gang that kill people for a living. The SAS try to stop the gang whilst they are about to kill someone. This i called a short film. i am hoping that the film will be around 5 minuets long.

FMP - Mind Map, Public opinion

This was our groups mind map of the subject Public Opinion.

Public opinion is an expression of the general populations thouhts or a particular plitical issue.

I feel like common research is usually the best to find out what audience you have. For example, Primary research, surveys and Questionnaires, as they can give you i direct answer from the people you want to ask.

On the other hand i think that things like The News and Gogglebox are things that tell you what they think and i don't see how The News and Gogglebox would be beneficial when coming to someone to do with my FMP

FMP - Recce

This is the location that i will be filming in to make my short film. I will be using the drive way and the house also the inside of the house when filming.

I decided to use this location as i thought it looked good for the genre that i am using as the house is out in the countryside and it appears very erie. The house has many rooms, narrow corridors and dead ends which will be helpful when it comes to filming in the house.

Feedback on Units 1-7

Looking back from units 1 - 7 I've seen my progress that i have made since i started, i have improved on many things throughout this time such as photoshop skills, i have learnt about the basic skills that you use when using the adobe photoshop package like, what all of the tools do, short cuts, layers etc.
I have found that as time has gone on i have been putting more effort into my work, i.e.. my postcard was extremely progressive compared to the first few tasks we done in september.

I am looking to put more effort into the FMP than i have in previous work as i would like my short film to be really professional, and to have a great effect on the viewer.

Unit 1 & 2 & 3 -

In the unit 1 and 2 you i learnt skills in the media and how to use software etc. I learnt the basics that you need to progress. I then looked at a into to production techniques in creative media production. Then in unit three you get to learn and understand an audience in creative media Production.
Some work to do this was using Indesign and how to layout your pasteboard, and learning the basics in photoshop, such as the tools and the shortcuts.
Then finally to show progress we designed a infographic, using Indesign photoshop or Illutrator.

After looking at that we moved on to moving image. To start we looked at the process of film making then we went on to film a few shots in green park to get the feel of the shots that we can do and to get a feel of a camera. I felt that as time progressed and the more tasks we did the more everything fell into place. For example, i feel that i improved when filming, i use to feel that if something got in the way i would give up of result to a different idea, but now i feel like i have learnt from this so i stick to what i have been planning. I also feel like that i have improved in editing, as when i started all i knew was how to put clips together, but now i have learnt how to change speed duration, audio levels, audio/visual effects.

Unit 4 & 5 & 6 -

Firstly to start unit 4 i done contextual research in creative media production. by doing this we made things like pinterest boards and researches and ideas of making xmas cards. All of this came under unit 4 as it was showing post production.
I also did the exact same thing but the final product was different. It was a comic book, we made another pinterest board and blog posts. Then we experimented with the adobe packages.
Then finally a analisation to look back on the project.
Unit 5 we looking into production of our own sound in the unknown caller project. We had to reccord our own sound and put it over the top of our films.
Unit 6 we made a short film, we were set the basic intro (get a phone call and t get somewhere in 2 minuets) i made my short film in royal cresent with a few shots in college

I started i unit 4 with basic skills with the adobe package but we done bits of work to help improve and i can now say that i feel confident in photoshop etc. i learnt things like how to adding effects to text and basics like layers and all the short cuts in the software
In unit 5 i didn't feel like anything changed because i found the foliage fairly easy and some sounds i found that you couldn't record yourself anyway. But some of the things i recorded worked well which made some progress e.g. footsteps, phone call, phone ringing.
In unit 6 i improved in filming and editing as i feel that i went for a different approach, The last shot in the short film particular. I feel like i improved on the set up of the scene as i used lighting to an advantage and made the shot erie which i feel is what i improved on as it made me realise how important lighting is.

Unit 7 -

Firstly to start reflection of unit 7, i used the skills that i learnt in the previous units.
After playing around with the layouts of the boxes we wanted our drawings going into we started designing our double paged comic book. After we had done this i realised how much i have learnt in Adobe Illustrator. I found that the designing process went really well as the sketch that i did was easy to design and i already knew the basics of Illustrator. Overall i learnt a lot more easy techniques and i felt that i have the right state of mind to see how something can be fitted media related due to all of the work that i have done, i can also see it improving more if i carry on to level 3

Comic Book

Page 1: This the first page of my comic book, i started by using the box template that i made last week, then i made a mask layer so i could draw outside the boxes and it wouldn't show up on the page.I then started drawing with the pen tool and the line tool all of the details, then i placed in the sketch of 'Sinja' then added in all of the gradients and the colours.

I chose these colours as i wanted the nice bright colours for the climax of the event, to make the reader become exited and be drawn into the story. I then finally put in all of the sentences and used a font called 'Haettenschweiler' this font was good as it was nice and clear and bold. After i placed a 10 degree angle on the font and put a 15mm stroke on the text to outline the text and make it more visible.

What i would do if i had to improve it, i would sketch the character in different positions so it would fit better.

Page 2: This is the second page of my comic book, i started by using the second shape template and started by using the pen tool and the rectangle tool and the star tool to make the shapes, i put the gradients in and used the yellow and orange for lights and cyan and royal blue to show the motion of 'Sinja' flying through the sky.

I then placed in all of the text and used the 'Haettenschweiler' font again and i put a 10 degree shear on the text and then i put a 15mm white stroke around the outside of the text, i also had to round the edges of the text as the text would leave spikes popping out and it looked unprofessional.

If i had more time i would of gone in to more detail and possibly would ad in a flare or looked at some free vectors so i could perfect the drawings... "ie. buildings"
