Indesign - comic book layout

We started by making the right page size as a print document, we set panels/Column. then we placed some wired rectangles and pasted 9 of them evenly on the page.

We then put a black '1pt' stroke onto the rectangles and done the same on the other page

We then pressed the 'W' key to show it in a preview

Workspaces and Panels
  • The workspaces is the boarder and the arrangement of the panels that you use during working on a document.
  • you can use the pop-up menu in the application bar. You can choose the way you want your panels and the arrangment to suit the way you work.
  • Click the expand panels button to show expanded panel groups, and click the collapse icon to shrink down the dock to icons and labels.
  • to close the panels press the cross, to reopen go on window and find the nessecary panel.

Indesign - Tutorials

In one of the tutorial videos, they show how you can change the colour of your interface ranging from a light grey to a dark colour  you can also put in a percentage and that can allow you to choose what colour you want.

all of these short cuts make it a lot easier when using the software, this can help to make the work more simple and can also can make it quicker to complete your task.

The shortcuts are different compared to photoshop as the tools are used for different purposes.

Comics/Graphic Novels/Magazines

Comics - Small book that shows a fictional based story, usually shown in drawn pictures in a panelled layout (usually based around a character)

Magazines - A series of printed pages that show a story and contain information and news from around the globe. celebrity news, hobbies etc.

Graphic Novels - A book formatted style, but is very much similar as to a comic book apart from its usually longer. Can be text heavy and picture heavy or both.

Book - The Walking Dead, is a comic book about a zombie apocalypse and a small group is in a prison trying to survive but run into nothing but trouble.
Likes/Dislikes - i enjoyed the story of the book and i enjoyed how the pictures were detailed. what i didn't like was because it was black and white, and the characters were not the same as the tv series.
Preferred style - I like the style of the walking dead comic book, the layout of panels of pictures is smart.

In todays lecture leanne showed us how the basic tools of in design work. we started by making a a4 sized page then inserting photos. After i sized them up i had to press a certain tool to reset the picture to the size that i set. afterwards i put in text and sized it and changed the colour of the text to blue. then i inserted a text box and went in type and selected "fill with placeholder text". After i placed everything i pressed the "W" key to see a print preview to make sure everything was within the bleed.

Layout & indesign (thumbnails)

To create this thumbnail i started by putting the background a light blue then made a new layer and inserted a stickman and copied and pasted the stick man many times to make rows of them, after that i copied the whole row and made it smaller. after i done that a few times i then drew a few lines around the stckmen to create a sense of a stage, then i put a dark blue shade in the background. finally inserted test into it, i made the title font bigger than the rest the put a breif decription about it.

to create this thumbnail i started by reseaching about how many people listen to rap music, i then put a yellow background in and then drew up a microphone to relate to the thumbnail.
i then inserted some text and wrote a basic brief on what i was showing after that i ended by changingthe font of the title and the rappers names to show emphasizm.
