Peer Assessment - short films

'A knight For A Call' - Ted Bennett

What do you like about the film and why?
I like the combination of the music and the opening scene because the music is perfect and suits the atmosphere and the shot of the main character counting his change just gives it a good first impression.

Write 2-3 sentences on there audio.

I like the choice of dialogue etc. but i think the record level was perhaps too high and some were tool low as some of the shots go from too loud to too quiet and i think that ruins the film as it shows the effort put in to audio was minimal which is a shame.

What may you do differently?

I think i would of made sure my record levels were good and made sure that the camera was in focus as in some shots the picture wasn't crystal clear. Also if i was going to include explosions and the earthquake effect i would research it thoroughly as the way the effects come across they seem very unreal and it also kills the tension which is built up.

Is there a clear genre - what is it?

Yes, the genre i believe is Fantasy/Adventure as 'slaying the dragon' vibe is included.

Describe 3 different shots

'Wide shot' - As the intro kicks in the actor is walking on a pavement, this shot was nice as it gave it a old fashioned feel and it also was a great shot to follow on from.

'Close up' - As the actor kills the dragon he runs out and stops near the camera which is good as you can clearly see the expression and emotion of the actor.

'Far Close up' - A good shot to choose but as the camera wasn't in focus on the actor unfortunately it makes the scene look tacky, and the shot goes on for 40 seconds so it is boring to watch.

Areas for improvement
1 - Make sure the camera is in focus.
2 - Make sure the sound level throughout.
3 - Special effects could of been thought about before adding them in.

'A Cold Call' - Will Remington

I like the whole theme of the cold, the black and white shots were very effective but i thought what would of been better would be if you included more old fashion clothing unless it was the effect to show cold personalities.

Write 2 - 3 sentences about audio
as much as the song choice it didn't fit in with the whole genre and the theme of the film and i think that the footsteps were well recorded. good effort!

What may you do differently?

I think i would of reduced the pace of the walking to the telephone as i thought that it was slightly rushed and i think if it was reduced it would of made it more sinister and mysterious.

Is there a clear genre - What is it?

Yes i think that it was Adventure/Action as there was running and pressure and a fight in slideshow

Describe 3 different shots

Mid shot - i think that the shot of the tree with the actor walking in the background was really good and gave it a good effect.

Dynamic shot -  i like the shot when the camera moves down slightly at the start of the film, is a good opener.

Over the shoulder - I think the over the shoulder shot in the telephone shot in the phone box was crisp and perfect, my favourite shot of the film.

1 - Reduce music level
2 - clothing used
3 - music used
